Driver Escapes Unhurt, Blasts Rock Area For Several Minutes
Srinagar, May 29 (GNS): In a major incident, a truck carrying LPG cylinders caught fire, resulting in a series of blasts on Jammu-Srinagar Highway near Tikri temple in Udhampur.
Official sources told GNS that the truck, which was carrying over 300 LPG cylinders from Bari Brahamana in Jammu to Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, suddenly caught fire, they said.
The truck was parked on roadside when it suddenly caught fire near the Tikri temple.
“Before fire tenders could have reached on spot, the LPG cylinders caught fire and started to explode.” they said adding that 45 minutes, dozens of cylinders exploded, some were thrown over a 100 feet away from the truck due to the blasts. The truck’s driver, Ujjal Singh, escaped unhurt and the situation is completely under control, they said. Fire tenders were rushed to area immediately and situation was brought under control. Later traffic on the highway was restored, they added. (GNS)
