Retired branch manager, cashier booked for fraud, forgery and criminal conspiracy in Langate branch

Srinagar, Aug 1 (GNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in connection with an alleged Rs. 3.11 crore embezzlement in the Central Co-operative Bank, Baramulla.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK saod that the chargesheet in FIR No. 25/2016 has been presented before the Hon’ble Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Handwara, under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC for offences relating to cheating, forgery, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy.

The investigation was initiated based on a written communication from the then Registrar, Co-operative Societies, J&K, regarding large-scale financial irregularities in various branches of the Central Co-operative Bank, Baramulla.

During the probe, it was established that the then Branch Manager of the Langate Branch, in connivance with other accused, fraudulently sanctioned fictitious loans and allowed overdrafts far beyond his delegated financial authority. This resulted in the misappropriation of approximately Rs. 3.11 crore of bank funds.

The investigation further revealed that the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to facilitate these fraudulent transactions, causing substantial wrongful loss to the bank. The allegations were substantiated during the investigation.

Accused chargesheeted are Ghulam Mohd Beigh (Retired Branch Manager), son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Beigh, resident of Kenyal Tarthpora, Handwara and Abdul Hamid Gojrii (Cashier-cum-Clerk), son of Abdul Razzak Gojrii, resident of Gund Karim Khan, Rafiabad

The Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and to report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Victims can also lodge complaints through email at sspeow-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in, reads the statement.(GNS)
