Sopore, July 27 (GNS): Sopore Police on Sunday busted an illegal gambling activity at a public place near Government Middle School, Janwara, Sopore and apprehended four persons.
As per a statement, a police team from Police Post Warpora raided the spot acting on credible information.
The apprehended persons were identified as Ashiq Hussain Mir S/O Ghulam Rasool Mir, Aijaz Ahmad Mir S/O Wali Mohammad, Bashir Ahmad Chopan S/O Mohammad Sadiq Chopan and Mohammad Altaf Mir S/O Ghulam Mohammad Mir all are residents of Janwara, Sopore.
During the raid, stake money and playing cards were recovered and seized from the spot, the statement said.
Accordingly, FIR No. 183/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has been taken up.
Sopore Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order and said strict legal action will continue against those involved in gambling and other anti-social activities. (GNS)
