Prof. Durmus Ali Arsalan from Turkey Delivers Keynote Address

Srinagar, Dec 21 (GNS): A ‘Three-week International Interdisciplinary Research Methodology Workshop’ being organized by Shah-i-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir was inaugurated by the varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad here on Monday.

A media handout received by GNS reads that Prof. Talat Ahmad in his presidential address, ‘stressed on the need of research and proper methodology that a researcher has to follow.’

The top-academician while speaking on the eve, as per the handout remarked that “Young researchers should focus on the questions and seek to find out the answers in the light of proper methodologies that are appropriate to ones’ field of research.”

While congratulating the organizers for conducting ‘such type of academic events’, the varsity head, as per handout, pointed towards the learning process ‘which teachers as a whole should imbibe in themselves to make them more robust.’

The Guest of Honour in the inaugural session, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Dean Research, University of Kashmir, spoke about the relevance of research in the overall academics viz-a-viz National Education Policy 2020, focussing upon the importance of research in the social sciences from the perspective of interdisciplinary approach, the handout reads.

Prof. Romshoo, as per the handout, stressed on the qualitative research using quantitative tools that will make research more dynamic.

The key note address was delivered by Prof. Durmus Ali Arsalan, Professor of Sociology from Mersin University, Turkey.

Prof. Arslan eloquently summarised the need of research in an interdisciplinary way and provided some insights that will make the researchers more sound and their research original in nature, the handout reads.

Prof. Arsalan, as per the handout mentioned some important points ‘that will help a researcher to grow in the overall scheme of learning, combining the tools and techniques of both natural and social sciences.’

Prof. Arsalan’s address caught the attention of participants throughout the session, the statement remarked.

The welcome address was delivered by the Head, Shah-i-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Bhat who is also the Director of workshop.

In his welcome address Prof. Manzoor, as per the handout, “spoke about the relevance and significance of the discipline of Islamic Studies in the contemporary era in view of the fact that this discipline has the potential to inculcate and promote universal ethical values like; brotherhood, fellow feeling, tolerance, composite culture, deep humanism, peaceful co-existence, accommodative spirit and above all the pluralistic outlook of the society.”

The proceedings were coordinated by Dr. Nasir Nabi, Assistant Professor SHIIS who also presented the vote of thanks towards the end.

Pertinent to mention that around 200 research scholars and Assistant Professors working in different colleges and Universities of the country, from different disciplines including Law, Sociology, Social work, Education, Commerce, Psychology, Persian, Urdu, History, English, Human Resource, Political Science, Religious Studies, Islamic Studies and Hindi have registered themselves for the workshop being held through the virtual mode keeping in view the current pandemic situation, the handout reads.

The invited resource persons are also from different disciplines and affiliated with various Universities located within the country and abroad particularly from Malaysia and Turkey, the handout reads further. (GNS)
