Pulwama, Nov 8 (GNS): Police on Monday said that a ‘robber’ was arrested Rajpora area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
“A few days ago Police Station Rajpora Pulwama received a complaint from some inhabitants of Rajpora and other adjacent areas that some unknown gunman has been roaming in the area who has been extorting money and other belongings from the people during night time,” a police official said in a statement to GNS.
Accordingly, he said, Police through its social outreach segment urged people to stay alert and help the police to nab the culprit.
“Late evening yesterday the culprit was arrested at Hanjan Bala by Police and public,” he said.
As per details, he said, the person entered into the house of one Ghulam Nabi Waggay at Hanjan Bala and asked the family members to switch off the lights and keep quiet. “Daughter-in- law of the house owner began to obstruct the culprit reacting to which culprit who was holding a small gun and wearing a hiding cloth on his head started beating her ruthlessly,” he said, adding, “On this whole family alerted others in neighbourhood and called for help.”
The culprit, he said, got frightened and tried to flee from the scene but people reacted instantly and called up Police for help.
“In the meanwhile Police party arrived and arrested the culprit and ascertained his whereabouts.”
The extortionist /robber, he said, has been identified as Amir Majid Mir of Rajpora.
“To this effect a case FIR NO 204/ 2021, U/Secs. 457, 383, 506, 342 and 323 IPC has been registered and further investigation taken up to dig the relevant facts,” the official added. (GNS)
