Srinagar, Oct 9 (GNS): Scores of residents in Rajpora Zachaldara area of north-Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday staged a protest demonstration over acute shortage of potable water in the area for over two weeks now.
Reports reaching GNS said that the protesters mostly women raised slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and blocked the road near Zachaldara Behnipora, bringing the vehicular movement to a grinding halt for almost an hour.
Maintaining that the area has been under acute shortage of potable water for over two weeks now, the protestors on the ocassion alleged that concerned authorities of lackadaisical approach who, as per them, have failed to restore the basic facility despite repeated pleas by the locals.
The protesters alleged that the PHE department has been “taking them for a ride”, adding “this callous approach has left us with no option than to go for protests.”
Meanwhile when contacted Executive Engineer Zubair Ahmad told GNS that “We (Department) are aware of the difficulties faced by the public” adding “Holistic measures will be taken to redress the issues on an immediate basis.” (GNS)
