SSP Presides Over Function, Holds Live Interactive Session With Public

Srinagar, July 30 (GNS): Police on Saturday held first of its kind “Service Mela” in Baramulla district to provide ‘single window’ for addressing various issues including passport and service verifications as well as create awareness regarding cyber crimes, phishing etc.

SSP Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS) presided over the function and said that a “single window” was provided to address issues pertaining to passport verification, service verification etc besides creating awareness about drugs, cyber frauds, phishing etc. “We organized this mela to provide a single window to the public to address all issues facing them,” he said.

The police, he said, received an extremely positive response. “The response was much more than we had expected,” he said, adding, “We are also holding more programs like Thana Devas etc so that all issues including those which otherwise remain confined to papers are addressed at an earliest.”

He also discussed in detail the pitfalls of drugs more so synthetic ones including heroin and brown sugar.

“Drugs in particular synthetic drugs like heroin and brown sugar are very dangerous. They are life threatening and these drugs are being pushed across the border by some agents,” the SSP said as per GNS correspondent, adding, “It is such an intriguing trade that if someone purchases one gram of heroin, say here in Barmulla, he pays Rs 2000-Rs 2500. But when somebody at the border gets this consignment in terms of kilograms, he doesn’t pay anything. Why?” He said that police had detailed discussions about it and tried to find answers.

Divulging his experience of being the SSP of the Baramulla, he said found people of the district very cooperating. In fact, the SSP said, he found the perception about some areas and people like Palhalan contrary to views held. “Most of them are very nice,” he said.

Later police in a statement said Police Service Mela-2022 at DPL Baramulla was an outreach to the general masses and an on spot grievance redressal mechanism to bridge the gap between police and public.

All the Section Incharges of DPHQ along with the respective record were present in different Kiosks for on spot facilitation, it said. “The contents and services offered in the programme were published on Pamphlets and distributed among the attendants,” it said, adding, “The main focus and service/awareness related to Cyber Crime, Road Safety, Verification, Passport related Issues, Crime Cases, Sahulat and JK e-cop were given thrust.” There was a lively interactive question answer session between the attendants and the concerned officers, the police said .

“A large number of the population across the district attended the Mela and put forth their grievances before the Officers and were aptly satisfied with the redressal mechanism.”

The issues pertaining to other departments were subsequently penned and the due correspondence with concerned departments was assured, it said. “People visited different kiosks and were briefed about the theme and facilities. Verification done on spot was handed over to the applicants,” the police said, adding, “Most of the issues were finalized on spot with the co-ordination of concerned SDPO, SHOs/ Inchage Police Posts present in the function.”

People who attended the programme were appreciative of this gesture and wished to have such facilitative programmes on a regular basis, the police statement added.(GNS)
