Uri, Dec 19:(GNS) In much relief to hundreds of patients in this frontier district of north Kashmir’s Baramulla, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Boniyar has started chemotherapy facility.
An official at the health centre told GNS that the chemotherapy is being given to patients after proper counseling from the doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
“So far, we gave chemotherapy to three patients and we are successful in this,” he said.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Boniyar Dr Parvaiz Masoodi told GNS that the initiative was taken because patients of this area were suffering a lot.
“Many patients used to come here for vehicle to go to Srinagar for chemotherapy. Though we provided them the vehicle but it was hectic for them. Then we took up the issue with authorities of GMC Srinagar and started chemotherapy at PHC Boniyar much to the relief of the people of this area,” he said.
Dr Parvaiz further said that he was personally monitoring the process of chemotherapy given at the health centre.
He said he will also try to approach higher officials and NGOs to provide free medicines to such patients or at least on reasonable rates.
The initiative taken up by BMO Boniyar has been highly appreciated by people of Uri.(GNS)
