Srinagar, May 27 (GNs): National Conference Chief Spokesperson and In Charge Constituency Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq Saturday expressed concern over the mass fish mortality in Dal Lake and demanded a thorough probe into the incident.
The unprecedented die-off exposes a risk to the local ecosystem and also threatens the livelihood of local fishermen, Tanvir said while demanding a thorough probe into the incident. “The reasons behind mass fish mortality should be assessed in detail and furthermore immediate remedial measures should be taken to save the remaining aquatic life in the lake,” he added.
Sadiq also said that the massive die-off had created an increasingly foul odour around the lake troubling the tourists and general public.
He further added, “Moreover, sunny weather will increase the intensity of the decay. Therefore the government should immediately remove affected fish quickly to reduce health hazards, fly infestations, algae blooms, and clean-up costs. I hope the government will address the exigencies thrown up by the situation on the war footing basis.”
