Srinagar, May 3 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference MP from Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi has expressed deep concern over increase in a number of Covid-19 cases in Anantnag.

He has expressed dismay over non-procurement of personal protection equipment (PPE) kits and N-95 face masks for health professionals and 3 layer face masks for other frontline workers engaged in combating coronavirus in the Covid-19 hospitals and designated red and buffer zones.

He has stated that though an amount of Rs 45 Lacs was released from MPLAD for procurement of the ventilators and personal protection equipment, sufficient to procure 3-4 ventilators, 800 PPE kits, 1500 N-95 face masks and 15,000 3 layer masks, yet the procurement of the essential items has not been reportedly made and resultantly the health professionals and other frontline workers are feeling insecure and not adequately equipped to perform their duties.

Masoodi while expressing anguish over sluggish procurement process has asked the J&K administration to give a free hand to the concerned authorities to speed up the procurement and infuse confidence amongst the healthcare professionals and other workers. He has asked the district administration to promote co-operation between the officers of the health department and the authorities of GMC hospital Anantnag, as the reported disharmony between the two healthcare players with key role in fighting the battle against Covid-19 is adversely affecting the moral of health professionals and eroding confidence of general public in the healthcare system.

Masoodi has also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of lady patient from Kharpora, Breng a few days back and the lady patient from Seer Hamdan today and the alleged negligence of the medical staff in two shocking incidents.

While welcoming the action taken by the authorities against the doctors and other staff suspected to have acted negligently, he has demanded time-bound inquiry and action warranted in light of the results of the enquiry. Masoodi has expressed heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family and also asked the administration to pay compensation for the dependents of the deceased. (GNS)
