SRINAGAR, July 21 (GNS): The Jhelum Basin continued to receive light to moderate rainfall on Monday afternoon, with isolated thunderstorms reported in some areas, officials said.
Quoting the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an official of the Irrigation and Flood Control department told GNS that the intensity of rainfall is likely to decrease gradually by this evening. However, fresh spells of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected later tonight or early tomorrow morning.
On the hydrological front, the official said some reports of flash flooding have been received from torrents and streams in Central Kashmir. A marginal rise in water levels has also been observed in smaller tributaries and nallahs.
Despite the rainfall, the River Jhelum remained stable. The water level at the Sangam gauge was recorded at 3.56 ft as of 1500 hrs, the official added.
Authorities have advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow weather advisories. (GNS)
