Kupwara, Jan 10 (GNS): After remaining shut for a week, Kupwara-Tanghdar road, only surface link connecting frontier sector with district headquarter, was on Sunday thrown open for vehicular traffic.
An official from 109 RCC Beacon told GNS that following considerable improvement in the weather conditions over past few days, the road was cleared of the accumulated snow on Sunday morning.
“The district administration after taking the prevailing road conditions into consideration allowed the traffic movement this morning”, the official said adding “However no vehicle was allowed to ply without anti-skid chains.”
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Anshul Gargh has hailed district administration alongside Beacon authorities for their ‘concerted efforts’ in making the only road connectivity through for vehicular traffic.
The top-district officer has in the meantime reiterated commitment of the civil administration in providing better connectivity to border-residents including Karnah and Tanghdar. “Gone are the days when Kupwara-Tanghdar road used to open only in the month of May”, Gargh said.
The top-district has also directed authorities concerned to strictly adhere to traffic rules even as making sure that all vehicles plying along the terrain are attached with anti-skid chains. (GNS)
