Mehooba Accepts Invitation, Says ‘Together We All Can Change Things For The Better’

Srinagar, Oct 14 (GNS) : National Conference president and parliamentarian from Srinagar Farooq Abdullah has convened a meeting of the ‘Gupkar Declaration signatories’ on Thursday afternoon at his residence to chalk out the future course of action with regard to  effective nullification of Article 370 by centre on August 5.

“My father & I called on Mehbooba Mufti Sahiba this afternoon to enquire about her well-being after her release from detention. She has kindly accepted Farooq Sb’s invitation to join a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories tomorrow 9Thursday) afternoon,” Omar tweeted as per GNS.

The Declaration was issued after an all-party meeting on August 4, 2019 at the Gupkar residence of Farooq Abdullah.

“It was nice of you & Farooq sahab to come home. It gave me courage listening to him. Im sure together we all can change things for the better,” Mehbboba responded to the Omar’s tweet.

The resolution said the parties unanimously resolved that they would be united in their effort to protect and defend the identity, autonomy and special status of Jammu and Kashmir against all attacks and onslaughts.

The parties had met again on 22 August this year and vowed to fight for restoration of the special status of J&K.

“The unfortunate events of 5th August 2019 have unrecognizably changed the relationship between J&K and New Delhi. In a spitefully shortsighted and unconstitutional move, Articles 370 and 35A were abrogated and the State was bifurcated and relegated to the status of two Union Territories and its Constitution tried to be made unenforceable,” the signatories had said in a joint statement issued after the meeting.

“The series of measures undertaken on 5th August 2019 were grossly unconstitutional and in reality measures of disempowerment and a challenge to the basic identity of the people of J&K. The measures attempt to redefine who we are. These changes were accompanied by repressive measures meant to silence people and coerce them into submission, and continue unabated,” they had said, adding, “These are testing times and times of pain for the peace loving people of J&K. We all reiterate our commitment to collectively fight to restore the Special Status of J&K as guaranteed under the Constitution and the commitments made from time to time. There is unanimity amongst us that collective institution is the effective way to fight for these rights and tirelessly struggle to get back the special status and restore the Constitutional guarantees forcibly taken away, against our will.” (GNS)
