Kupwara, Jun 3: (GNS) With a mission to cover the water scarce locations, Ground water works division of Jal Shakti Department is working tirelessly to facilitate people with potable water living in Kandi belts of this north-Kashmir’s district.
The executing division functioning under the aegis of Jal Shakti Department (earlier known as PHE) has so far completed one hundred hand-pumps across four constituencies of the frontier district, bringing respite to the thousands of households in the water scanty areas of the district.
Din Mohammad Bhat, Executive Engineer, Ground water Works division, while talking to GNS said that, the government last year rolled out a plan to take forward the stalled work of the department.
“The government last year rolled out a plan to take forward the projects stalled, for the want of funds”, he said, adding, “a project was approved for each of the constituency in all of the ten districts to mitigate the sufferings of people for the want of potable water.”
As per the plan, each of the constituency was allotted with a share of fifteen handpumps and as such the Kupwara district received a share of sixty handpumps for four constituencies, Bhat said.
Given that Kupwara has more scant, we had to move another proposal, which was subsequently approved, to fetch us 190 handpumps more, alongside Pulwama (which separately was allotted was 190 handpumps)”, Bhat said.
We are currently on the job and have already completed one hundred out of the allotted two-hundred fifty handpumps, he said, adding, “It will take another two months to finish with the remaining work.”
Remarking that, “It will bring a revolution”, Bhat expressed hope that “the potable water woes of the people would be tapped sooner than later.”
Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer, Ground Water Works Riyaz Ahmad Mir and concerned Junior Engineer, also vouched to complete the leftover task in stipulated time. (GNS)
