Srinagar, May 1 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference asserted that workers are important factors in fulfilling the vision and mission of the government saying the May Day is the occasion when the society in entirety celebrates the achievements of laborers.
On International Labor Day, JKNC Members of Parliament, Muhammad Akbar lone and Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi felicitated the work force of J&K saying their role cannot be belittled and that government should take every possible step to help them sail through the prevailing crises.
In his message on May Day, NC additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that the society should be appreciative of the role played by the front line workers and ground staffers combating the COVID-19 crises. He said that just acknowledging their toil won’t suffice, “much more has to be done to ensure that all the workers draw satisfaction from their jobs. Meantime an effective policy framework should be made to secure the interests of menial, skilled and unskilled labor force driving the economy of the country.”
While necessitating the need of encouragement and assistance to workers, Party’s Members of Parliament said that that the responsibility of rescuing the people working in organized sector and unorganized sector during these trying times rests with the government. “The prevailing situation has thrown plethora of challenges before us, one of them being the fast diminishing joblessness in unorganized as well as organized sector. the work force associated with Handicrafts sector, construction sector, and Agriculture including a sizeable chunk of unskilled labor force engaged in other manual jobs have bore much of the brunt due to the ongoing COVID-19 crises. It is here that the government’s crucial role comes into play towards ensuring that workers are properly paid for and their rights protected at any cost.”
Referring to NC’s proverbial role towards the emancipation of laborers, and government employees, Members of Parliament in a joint statement said, “Securing the vital interests of the working class has always been the cornerstone of our ideology. It goes without saying how important a role our party; right from its inception, has played to strengthen the hands of those engaged in unorganized sector, however much more needs to be done in the shape of ensuring social security, guaranteed minimum wages, and having sufficient laws to end the exploitation of the workers of all hues at all levels.”
Drawing the attention of Government towards the plight of daily wagers and casual employees the Members of Parliament said, “These people have been hitting roads seeking their regularization but so far no concrete step has been taken to mitigate their problems. They have been receiving disappointing promises. These people have been serving in various departments for many years, despite that they get paltry salaries, given the fact that these employees work as diligently as other regular employees. They work day in, day out, they have been playing a crucial role in ensuring the crucial facilities to people although since the onset of COVID-19 crises. Far from acknowledging their hard work and addressing their genuine issues, the government has chosen to turn a blind eye to them. The government should compassionately address the woes of all the daily wagers and casual laborers employees and iron out anomalies in their pay structure and regularization issues at an earliest.” (GNS)
