Srinagar, May 1 (GNS): The J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association on Friday demanded action with 40 hours against a police officer who allegedly beat up an Assistant Engineer Nasir Ismail in Anantnag district despite having a valid pass on Thursday. In case the action was not taken, the association threatened to suspend work among other ‘tough measures’.

In a statement issued to GNS, the association expressed anguish over the incident which happened at Sarnal point Anantnag on Thursday.

“Mr. Nasir Ismail was beaten ruthlessly by sub-inspector of Sheerbagh police station and thereafter he was arrested illegally and taken to police station Sheerbagh where again he was beaten mercilessly,” it said, adding, “This is despite the fact that the Assistant Engineer was having a valid movement pass issued by District Magistrate, Anantnag but the same was not entertained by the errant sub-inspector.”

The Association said that it fails to understand whether the sub-inspector is having so much of an authority to disregard the movement pass issued by concerned District Magistrate.

“The said sub-inspector has also misbehaved with the concerned Executive Engineer who has reached the spot after this incident.”

Providing of the power supply comes under Essential service duty and the employees of KPDCL, are working day in and day out for providing 24×7 power supply to the general public, it said.

The association has also written a letter in this regard to the divisional commissioner Kashmir, a copy of which lies with Global News Service. “Such incidents have happened time and again in this COVID-19 pandemic crisis as one of the junior Engineers was also manhandled by police officers earlier this month and similar complaints are being received from every nook and corner of Valley.”

In this backdrop, the association has requested the divisional commissioner to pass necessary instructions so that the employees of KPDCL are able to perform their duties without any hindrance and harassment.

“In the very first instance, the association demands the immediate removal/suspension of sub inspector who arrested the assistant Engineer within 40 hours falling which the association will be left with no option but to take some tough measures which includes suspension of work,” it added. (GNS)
