Srinagar, Jun 30 (GNS): A top-level coordination team led by DGP Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday held a meeting with IG Jammu and other top-level officials to review the prevailing security situation in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu division.
DGP Dilbagh Singh while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the meeting said that the meeting was held with the aim to review the prevailing security situation and to assess the strength of current infiltration-grid in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
Expressing his ‘satisfaction’ over the security grid, the top-officer remarked that “The field reports received suggest that our security grid on border is as robust as in internal areas.”
“There have been attempts of infiltration to force the entry of militants to this side”, Singh said adding “However these attempts have been aborted then and will be averted in coming times as well.”
Detailing out that that forty-eight militants from different outfits have been killed in the ongoing Month, Singh also said that a total of 128 militants were killed in the first six months this year so far.
Of the killed militants, include 70 from Hizb-ul-Mujhaideen, 20 each from Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba and remaining organizations, Singh maintained.
“The two militants killed today in an operation at Bijbehara have been involved in the killing of a 5-year-old boy and a CRPF personal, Singh said.
“The militant killed yesterday at Achabal Anantnag was the last militant of Doda district”, Singh said adding “With his killing the district has been for time being though freed of militancy.”
Remarking the “South Kashmir as hotbed of militancy”, Singh said that “We have put them (militants) at backfoot and number is coming down rapidly” adding “many youth were motivated to shun the path and later on handed over to their respective families.”
Many were killed even after remaining active for a day only Singh said adding “Only twenty-four of the newly joined youth are active at the present.” (GNS)
