Srinagar, May 20 (GNS): 73 persons including two pregnant women on Wednesday tested positive for the novel coronavirus, pushing the overall tally of the covid-19 patients in Jammu and Kashmir inch closer to 1400 mark.    

Official sources said that among the cases, 20 were from Jammu, 17 from Kupwara, 8 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, Kulgam and Udhampur, 3 each from Ramban and Kishtwar, two from Samba while one each has been reported from Bandipora, Pulwama, Kathua, Poonch and Reasi.  In all 74 had tested positive but one was a retest, they said.   

With these cases, the tally has risen to 1390—694 active while 678 have recovered and 18 others have died. Among the active cases—Jammu has 134 cases while Kashmir 560.  
Professor Farooq Jan, medical superintendent SKIMS Soura, told GNS that 1992 samples were processed at the viral diagnostic lab of the hospital and among them 44 returned positive and include, 17 from Jammu, 14 received from CMO Srinagar, 8 from Baramulla, 4 from Kupwara and one from Pulwama.

The cases received from CMO Srinagar include eight from Warpora, main Kupwara, Kralpora and Chogan Handwara, all travels from Alahabad, Ambala Haryana and Dehradun.
The cases from Baramulla include 28-year-old and 42-year-old from Watergam, a man in 20s from  Dangerpora and five women aged 27 to 45 years from Venkara.

The cases received from CHC Kupwara include 12-year-old boy and 65-year-old man from Kralpora and a 65-year-old from Hayama.  

Dr. Salim Khan, nodal officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College, Srinagar told GNS 706 samples were processed at CD Hospital Srinagar’s Microbiology Lab and 17 of them returned positive. Eight of these cases are from Jammu while seven are from Anantnag and two pregnant women from Kulgam—28-year-old from Khudwani and 35-year-old from Chatawan area of the southern Kashmir district.  The other 13 cases were report from GMC Jammu, the sources said.   

Moreover 31 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals 04 from Jammu Division and 27 from Kashmir Division.
The government in a daily media bulletin said till date 122964 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance.  They included 33113 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 86 in Hospital Quarantine, 694 in hospital isolation and 19892 under home surveillance. Besides, 69161 persons have completed their surveillance period.

With these fresh cases, Anantnag now has 252 COVID-19 patients, highest in all districts, followed by Kulgam (171), Srinagar (169), Bandipora (138), Baramulla (129), Kupwara (118), Shopian (109), Jammu (67), Budgam (58), Kathua (37), Udhampur (33), Ramban (27), Ganderbal (25), Pulwama (19), Samba (16), Rajouri (8),  Kishtwar (5), Poonch (4) and Reasi (4) and Doda (1).
