Day 36: Restrictions Continue; Police Arrests 16 Persons, Seize 52 Vehicles

Srinagar, April 23 (GNS): The restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19 continued for the 36th day in Kashmir Valley on Thursday.

Reports reaching GNS said that while most people stayed indoors, police and CRPF remained deployed to enforce the restrictions.

Meanwhile acting tough against the violators of Government prohibitory orders, Police in a series of activities have arrested 16 persons and seized 52 vehicles in Srinagar, Sopore, and Ganderbal.

A police spokesman said that in the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowgam, Police have arrested 13 persons and also seized two vehicles for defying the Govt orders issued u/s 144 CrPC amid Coronavirus pandemic.

Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 47/2020, 48/2020, 49/2020, 50/2020, 51/2020, 52/2020, 53/2020, 54/2020 and 55/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Nowgam and further investigation into the cases have been initiated.

In the jurisdiction of Police Station Panthachowk, Police have booked three persons for violating the lockdown orders. In this regard, cases vide FIR numbers 23/2020, 24/2020 and 25/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Panthachowk and further investigation has been initiated.

Similarly, Sopore Police seized a vehicle in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo for violating curfew orders and registered a case under relevant sections of law in this regard at Police Station Tarzoo.

“Today, 49 Vehicles have been seized in District Ganderbal. Please maintain sanctity of Govt directions and restriction orders,” police in Ganderbal tweeted.

Police have once again requested the general public to follow the restrictions imposed by the Government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and those who are violating the restriction orders will be dealt with strictly. (GNS)
