Srinagar, March 24 (GNS): A 22-year-old boy was among three persons who tested positive for coronavirus, taking the number of covid-19 patients to four in Kashmir Valley.
A senior doctor at SKIMS told GNS the boy, a resident of Bandipora, was admitted in GMC Baramulla and his sample was sent to the laboratory set up at the tertiary care hospital here. “The report came out to be positive,” he said.
Principal Secretary, Planning & Development & Information, Rohit Kansal said that the boy has history of travel outside J&K but no history of travel abroad. “Contact tracing (is) on,” he tweeted.
Earlier, in the day two people, who had arrived from Saudi Arabia and New Delhi recently and admitted in CD hospital Srinagar, tested positive for COVID-19.
As of now, four persons have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Valley while the tally of such patients in the entire J&K has gone up to 7. Three cases were reported from Jammu earlier this month. The government informed that one among the patients has
Sources said that as part of the procedure, the samples of the trio was sent to an outside laboratory for cross-checking purposes and at both laboratories, the tests came out to be positive.
They said one of them is a resident of Natipora Srinagar and had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 16 in the same flight (443-Air India) which was boarded by the 67-year-old woman who tested positive on March 18, becoming the first COVID-19 case in Kashmir. The Natipora resident is 57-year-old and had reported to the CD hospital only a couple of days backs, causing a great deal of worry administration.
The other person is said to be a resident of Hyderpora Srinagar, aged around 65-years, (originally a resident of Sopore) who had returned from New Delhi recently after being part of a ‘Tablighi Jamaat’ attended by people from Indonesia and Malaysia.
As already reported by GNS, the duo was yesterday moved to separate isolation facility at CD hospital, which has since been converted into a Covid hospital along with two other hospitals—SKIMS Bemina and JLNM Rainawari.
Meanwhile, Professor Farooq Ahmad Jan, the medical superintendent of SKIMS, told GNS that a two persons were admitted in the isolation facility of the hospital.
Meanwhile, nine more persons were admitted to Chest Disease (CD) hospital today.
“Two samples (of Hydrepora and Natipora residents) came out to be positive and six others negative,” Dr Naveed Nazir, HOD CD hospital, told GNS.
The Government also informed that 4765 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and one among the positive cases have recovered in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the daily Media Bulletin, 2928 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 71 are in hospital quarantine.
Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1268 while as 498 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The Bulletin further said that 279 samples have been sent for testing of which 253 tested as negative and only seven cases have tested positive so far. Of them, one has recovered and six others are active. “20 reports are awaited till March 23, 2020.” (GNS)
