6-Year-Old’s Twin Sister, Cop Among 14 Test Positive, J&K Tally At 314

Srinagar, April 16 GNS): A day after 6-year-old girl tested positive for the novel coronavirus here, samples of her twin sister and their father returned positive along with twelve other persons for COVID-19 in Kashmir Valley, taking the number of the infected persons to 314 in J&K.

Sources said that among the 14 fresh cases, ten are from Bandipora, two from Srinagar and one each from Ganderbal and Budgam districts.

Ten among those who tested positive in the Bandipora district include six members of a same family from Naidkhai area and comprises previous COVID-19 patient’s mother (70), wife (28), sister (43), brother-in-law (55), niece (10) and nephew (in 20s).  

The four others from the north Kashmir district include 24-year-old woman (contact of a deceased COVID-19 patient) from Gund Jahangir, 55-year-old woman and her daughter (20) from Gund Kaiser who had come in contact with their family member with travel history New Delhi and a 21-year-old youth from Gurez who at present puts up at Tanghat area and is said to be a contact of a COVID-19 patient from Pathkoot Bandipora.

Regarding Srinagar cases, they said, they include twin sister and the father (40, Assistant Professor) of the 6-year-old girl who tested positive on April 15. Originally residents of Vilgam Handwara, the family is presently residing in Safa Kadal area of Srinagar.    

Regarding patient from Ganderbal, they said, she is a 20-year-old girl with travel history to New Delhi.

The last and 14th person who tested positive is a policeman from Beerwah Budgam. The 23-year-old had come in contact with a COVID-19 patient at Bemina where 19 suspected were kept under quarantine and a few of them later turned to be COVID-19. As per a letter by Block Nodal Officer Beerwah, he has joined duties at Police Station Batamaloo on April 4 and remained there in the police station till April 11 when he travelled to home and stayed there till April 16.   

Meanwhile, Director Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Dr G N Ahanger expressed satisfaction over the good work done in fight against COVID 19. “Thirteen positive cases were treated at the Institute who responded and after full recovery were discharged so far. The credit goes to front lines warriors and their dedication,” he said, adding, “SKIMS will continue to contribute till fight against COVID is won.”   

Meanwhile, the government informed that out of 314 cases, 272 are active positive, 38 have recovered and four have died.

Furthermore, it said, 58076 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 7463 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 265 in Hospital Quarantine, 272 in hospital isolation and 29366 under home surveillance. Besides, 20706 persons have completed their surveillance period.

Moreover, it said, two more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged today from SKIMS, Soura. Providing district-wise breakup, it said Srinagar has 78 positive cases wherein 65 are Active Positive, 12 recovered and 01 has died, Bandipora 66 positive cases with 54 Active Positive, 11 recovered and  01 died, Baramulla 42 positive cases with 41 Active Positive, and 01 died; Kupwara has 25 positive cases and all are active cases; Shopian has 14 positive cases out of which 12 are active positive,02 recovered; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases which are all active cases, Budgam 12 positive cases of which 09 are Active Positive with 03 recovered cases; Kulgam has 05 cases which are all active positive; Pulwama 03 positive cases where 02 Active Positive,01 recovered and Anantnag district has 01 Positive cases which is active positive.
