Srinagar, Feb 3 (GNS): A private hospital in Srinagar has purportedly duped a patient from Sumbal Bandipora by conducting her ‘Laproscopic Cholsystectomy’, a surgery to remove the gallbladder, on paper rather than in reality.

Family members of the woman from Dangarpora area of Sumbal told GNS that they were left shell-shocked after latest Ultrasonography (USG) tests suggest the presence of ‘gallbladder and stones’, nineteen months after conduct of ‘Laproscopic Cholsystectomy’ at the hospital (name withheld). The family said after she (patient) complained of abdominal pain, the doctors at the hospital had advised the surgery to remove the gallbladder following diagnostic tests which suggested ‘Symptomatic Cholelithiasis’ (gallstones).

“We were made to arrange the charges for ‘Laparoscopic Cholesystectomy’. The patient (woman) was admitted on June 1, 2019 and the ‘so-called’ surgery was done on the same day,” the family members said.

After conducting “surgery”, the patient was discharged on the following day (June 2, 2019), reads the discharge file having an MRD number (SHS-IPD-6425-19) and mentions the name of the surgeon and anesthetist besides other details.

“Medicines were prescribed then and we paid the charges,” the family members said, adding, “Recently she developed same kind of pain and on fresh USG carried at the advice of a doctor, the gallbladder was found intact as also the stones.”

The family members have demanded stern action against the hospital authorities as well as the doctors for duping them so as to bring an end to what they termed as an unethical practice having far-reaching consequences on the health of an ordinary citizen.

When contacted and on sharing all documents regarding the ‘fake surgery’, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Samir Matoo told GNS that an inquiry will be initiated into the matter. “Action, as warranted under law, will be taken,” the official said. (GNS)
