Shopian, October 07, 2025 (GNS): Shopian Police has stepped up its efforts to curb the misuse of mobile SIM cards and to ensure strict adherence to telecom verification norms by conducting surprise inspections at several SIM vendor outlets across the district.
In a statement issued to GNS, police said the drive was carried out under the close supervision of SSP Shopian Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary-IPS. The aim of the operation was to strengthen the verification system, ensure the authenticity of SIM issuance, and prevent the circulation of fraudulently obtained SIM cards that could be used for unlawful activities.
During the inspections, police teams closely scrutinized Customer Application Forms, verification records, sale registers and other relevant documents maintained by vendors to check whether proper guidelines were being followed.
Those found violating the laid down procedures or failing to maintain the required documentation were warned of strict legal action under relevant laws. Vendors were also made aware of the serious legal consequences of issuing SIM cards without proper verification.(GNS)
