Ganderbal, July 22 (GNS): Police on Wednesday rescued eight nomadic families along with their livestock from the higher reaches of Chattergul in Ganderbal after incessant rainfall and landslides made the area vulnerable.
In a handout to GNS, the police said that the rescue operation was carried out jointly by Ganderbal Police and the Civil Administration after receiving information about deteriorating weather conditions and the risk of floods and landslides in the area.
Despite difficult terrain and adverse weather, rescue teams reached the spot and safely evacuated the stranded families to secure locations. Necessary assistance, including safe relocation and essential support, was provided to them.
“The operation reflects our commitment to safeguard lives and ensure the well-being of vulnerable communities during emergencies,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities said Ganderbal Police continues to monitor the weather situation closely.
People living in or travelling through hilly and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary movement during bad weather, and immediately report any emergency to the nearest police station or the district emergency helpline. (GNS)
