Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed For Nearly 3 hours

MS Nazki

Jammu/Srinagar, Nov 9 (GNS): Mughal road, after reopening last evening for light motor vehicles, was again closed for vehicular movement due to snowfall, officials said on Wednesday.

The historic road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian, remained closed for traffic since early Sunday to Tuesday afternoon following snowfall at several places enroute including Pir Ki Gali (PKG), Mansar Mohre and Posha, a police officer told GNS. However, it reopened late in the afternoon yesterday but had to be shut again due to fresh snowfall at PKG, the officer added.

Similarly, the traffic officials here said that the traffic has been suspended on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road after snowfall in areas around Sonamarg.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities also informed that Jammu-Srinagar highway was shut for near 3 hours but remained through for the traffic for the day.

“From Jammu-Srinagar highway remained blocked for 02 hours 57 minutes due to C-N Tunnel closed by Tunnel authority.  There was breakdown of 05 HMVS at various locations on the highway,” traffic department said.

He said people are advised to undertake journey on highway only after confirming status of the road from Traffic control units.

However he said subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.  (GNS)
