Mental Health and Suicide prevention awareness programme held by police in Budgam

Budgam, July 08:(GNS) Police on Thrusday organised an awareness programme on Mental health and suicide prevention at KSERT college of education Humhama Budgam.

In a statement to GNS, the police said that the main focus was intended to disseminate awareness among the participants regarding mental health and prevention of suicide.

The statement further stated that prominent speakers participated in the awareness programme Saheel Alaqband Assistant Director IEDS highlighted the religious perspective regarding suicide and mental health. Dr Irfan Ali Khan-KAS focused on causes of suicide and role of family in the treatment.

Dr Kousar (Asstt. professor department of education- Kashmir University) discussed the various types of suicides and various risk factors contributing to it especially domestic violence.

Mohammad Saliya Bhat (Block officer NRLM) highlighted the socio- economic factors contributing to suicide and preventive measures thereof.

Zahid Jeelani (Co-ordinator Kashmir University) focused on the psychological aspects of suicide.

Basit Naseer Project Manager Himayat discussed the various employment avenues that can be provided to the victims of suicidal ideation.

Ms. Insha Hassan (Incharge Drug De-addiction and Stress Management Centre DPL Budgam) shared the ways of maintaining mental health and prevention of suicide thereof.

Meanwhile on the occasion Tahir Saleem-JKPS SSP Budgam gave thrust on various aspects of mental health and preventive measures of suicide especially in youth, they said.

During the deliberations, socio-economic, Physiological and Psychological causes and also preventive measures of suicide were discussed.
The participants were encouraged to adopt positive approach, to correct their parenting styles and to encourage others to do the same, they said.

An effective and simple way for the overall mental and psychological development was also shared with the participants, they said.

Some important psychiatric day to day aspects of stress were also highlighted by the expert panellists, reads the statement.(GNS)
