Uri,Jan 23 (GNS): The legal Metrology Department Kashmir imposed fine of one lakh on petrol pump in Urabowa area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on the charges of overcharging.
Reports reaching to GNS that three days back the Legal Metrology Department Baramulla had sealed this petrol pump namely Kafeel filling station after receiving the complaints from locals that said petrol pump was overcharging on the supply of fuel.
The said petrol pump was sealed through a seizure memo under the Legal Metrology Act.
“Legal Metrology Department Kashmir has imposed a fine of one lakh to Kafeel Filling Station under section 30, 49 of Legal Metrology Act 2009/J&K Stds. of weights & Measures (Enf) Amendment Act 2011/LM (Packages Commodities) Rules 2011/J&K weights & Measures (Enf) Rules 2009,” reads an order issued by the department, a copy of which is with GNS.
“A Receipt No. 1243 challenged by Legal Metrology Officer Baramulla received 100000.00/ Rupees (in words) One Lakh only from Mrs/Mr. M/S Kafeel Filling Station Uri, Prop: Kafeel Ahmad Mangral through Zamman Mangral S/K Uranbuha by cheque,” it added.
Assistant Controller LMD Baramulla/ Kupwara, Mudasir Ahmad in a statement on Saturday said that the department was working as a frontline organization in J&K for the cause of consumers.
“Legal Metrology Act, 2009 prevents consumers from short measurements, short weighments, overcharging and other malpractices,” it said.
“In Baramulla, the Department has recovered a fine of Rs. 2 Lakh from three petrol pumps over the last one month or so for violation of different provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
Consumer satisfaction remains the most cherished goal of Legal Metrology Units Baramulla and Kupwara,” it added.(GNS)
