Varsity Mulls Over to Conduct Exams Through ‘Blend’ Of The Two Modes: Controller Examination

Srinagar, Sep 20 (GNS): Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) outgoing batches are up in arms against the varsity administration for its persistence to conduct end semester exams through offline mode even as the daily COVID19 statistics are giving chills to the commoners and adminstration alike.
A delegation from the varsity told GNS that despite making several representations and even reaching to the officials through different mediums, the administration, according to them, is “unrelenting with its lopsided approach on the sensitive issue.”
“They (administration) have came in a complete disdain to our time to time representations”, the students said adding “Even as the COVID19 threat is looming large with nearly a thousand cases being recorded on a daily basis in the Valley alone, we in the meanwhile don’t see any seriousness from the varsity higher-ups to reconsider their decision.”
A candidate part of the delegation, wishing anonymity, maintained that they had made several requests to the administration to conduct the exams through Online mode for the outgoing batches on a priority basis and even a request regarding ‘Fee Waiver’ was also made. However, according to the candidate, they are yet to see any significant follow-up from the varsity authorities.
“We have completed all the syllabus and other required formalities and are as such supposed to complete our degrees’ before September 30 this year for subsequent submission of the documents to go for further studies”, the student said adding “However we fail to comprehend as why the varsity administration is stretching the session without any genuine cause and only putting our careers at stake.”
“We even had requested for fee-waiver on the grounds that no classes were held and no subsidiary charges incurred on the Varsity for the facilities it would have to provide us in normal circumstances, however that request too seems to have gone to the bin”, another student remarked.
“Even when Central University offered a 20% refund for regular cases and 50% for special cases, our Varsity stands an exception”, he said.
What is more ‘puzzling’, for the students is that the varsity is conducting the exams of BBA from coming Monday through offline mode only.
“Even the datesheet for the candidates supposed to appear in the exam was issued just few days ago”, a candidate said.
“They (administration) are putting both our lives and career at stake by their lopsided approach and are actually circumventing the Lockdown guidelines amid the worsening COVID19 scenario”, the candidates said.
We yet again make a fervent appeal to the authorities to re-consider their decision for conducting exams through suggested offline mode. “The IUST buildings have been used as Quarantine centres for COVID19 patients and we fear for we may get infected and in turn harm our families back home”, the delegation said.
Meanwhile when contacted Controller Examination Mohammad Amin Bhat told GNS that all the SOPs are put in place for the candidates appearing in the exams through offline mode.
“We are conducting the BBA exams for backlog papers from tomorrow (Monday) through offline mode for the appearing students have attended the classes through offline mode only”, the official maintained adding “The exams before this were conducted through online mode as they took the classes online.”
Maintaining that the varsity has taken due care of SOPs, the official said that “All the required protocols will be duly followed and the number of students appearing in the exams does not exceed more than two hundred a day” adding “We have enough space available to conduct these exams without much to worry for.”
When asked about the terminal exams, the official maintained that the administration is mulling over to conduct the exams through ‘blend mode’. “It would be a sort of blend of the the two modes to maintain the sanctity of the exams for outgoing batch”, he said adding “Part of it would be conducted through offline mode and remaining part through online mode.”
“We are on to it and a decision will be made and intimated to the candidates accordingly”, the official added. (GNS)
