Srinagar, Apr 17 (GNS): The Forest Department on Friday retrieved over ten kanal of encroached upon land in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Conservator Forest, South Circle, Tawheed Deva, told GNS said that they had been receiving inputs from locals over the encroachment of forest land in Daksum and Nowbugh ranges.
“The constant pouring of information over the matter alerted the department,” he said, adding that in the first phase of the drive, around ten kanal of land has been retrieved in Compartment 52/K of the ranges (Daksum/Nowbugh) and 51/K.
We are on to it and will see if there is any such encroachment in any other part, Deva said.
The official warned the encroachers of stern action and said the department is keeping a strict vigil on such unscrupulous practices.
He said the offenders will be dealt under the newly implemented Indian Forest Act – that came into force last year when the State of J&K was declared a Union Territory. (GNS)
