First-ever Journalist Body Under Banner of ‘Journalist Fraternity Kupwara’ Goes Official

Senior Journo Yahya Sultan Elected As President, Javid Zargar Takes Over As Chairman

Kupwara, Nov 8 (GNS): Working journalists here in this frontier district have joined hands to formally constitute first of its kind of journalist body under the banner of ‘Journalist Fraternity Kupwara’.

A media handout received here by GNS in this regard reads that the journalists in the district were upto now working under a leadership choosen with consensus, however after hectic deliberations and growing demand from the members, elections were held to elect a formal body of the fraternity.

The fraternity as such met here on Sunday to formalise the body on the concluded election results, during which, as per the statement, senior reporter and incumbent News18 (Urdu) district Correspondent Yahya Sultan was nominated as President with Javid Ahmad Zargar was unanimously nominated as Chairman and Kabir Geelani as General Secretary of the fraternity.

Among the other nominated members included Pirzada Shakir as Chief Spokesperson while as Sahil Shameen and Shameen Abdullah took over as Treasurer and Vice-Chairman respectively.

The enthusiasm during entire voting process, as per the statement, remained upbeat.

During hectic election campaigning prospective candidates made promises including implementation of welfare measures and establishment of Press Club in the district to sway results in their favor.

Of the 35 members, 29 members voted in the election, the handout reads.

Meanwhile, Rahee Mushtaq has been selected as Convenor and Mudasir Rashid as Vice President while as Wasim Majnoon Mir, Sharafat Manzoor, Aijaz Ahmad Khan have been nominated as Spokesperson, Coordinator, and Manager of the Fraternity respectively.

Tarique Raheem and Jahangir Lolabi have been nominated as the Coordinator Print Media and Adil Akbar as Secretary and Suhail Yousuf Shah as Vice Secretary of the Fraternity.

Peerzada Zubair and Shameem Bhat have been selected as Coordinator Electronic Media and Atif Qayoom nominated as organizer.

Raja Akbar will work as Press Secretary of the organization and Murtaza Ahmad as Publicity Secretary.

Among the other members of fraternity include Dr. Ab Qayoom, Tahir Sultan, Khan Ayoub, Aasif Malik, Mutabir Rasool, Dar Manzoor, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Amjid Khan, Raja Ishaq, Irshad Ahmad Khan, and Farooq Ahmad.

The oath ceremony, as per the statement, will be held in the coming days. (GNS)
