Srinagar, May 3: (GNS) J&K Students Association has written to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar urging him to facilitate travel of over hundred Kashmiri medical students – pursuing different medical courses – to Bangladesh.

In a statement issued to Srinagar-based news agency Global News Service (GNS), Spokesperson of Association Nasir Khuehami said that, over a hundred Kashmiri medical students pursuing studies in Bangladesh, currently stuck in Kashmiri due to pandemic, have been informed by their respective colleges and Universities in Bangladesh that examinations will commence from May 31 and are thus required to return – to respective colleges – immediately.

He said that, their exams were postponed on April 3 and were told that datesheet would be announced at least 2 weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr. Due to second deadly wave of Covid-19 in India, hundreds of students returned to India recently and now all of sudden datesheet has been announced and exams are slated to start from May 31, 2021 only.

As the students are running short on time also, they also are supposed to complete a 14-day-mandatory Quarantine on their return to Bangladesh, he remarked.

Even at a time that Bangladesh Govt has suspended air travels, students must be ensured a flight back in this critical situation to save their future, the Spokesperson urged.

Khuehami requested External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar to take immediate steps to resolve the issue on humanitarian grounds and urged the Ministry to take immediate steps and to make all possible efforts to facilitate the travel of students.

The Spokesperson has also urged Ministry to direct officials concerned to act swiftly and provide necessary assistance to Kashmiri students, so that they may attend examination on time. (GNS)
