Srinagar, May 25: (GNS) Continuing with its efforts to eradicate the drug menace from Kashmir valley, Excise Department authorities alongside officials from revenue and police department Tuesday destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in several areas in three South-Kashmir districts – Anantnag, Pulwama and Kulgam.
An official part of the eradication drive told news agency GNS that Excise Department Inspectors Majid Majeed Khanday and Rayies Bhat launched the drive on the directions of ETO South Kashmir Shafiq Ahmad Wani and Deputy Excise Commissioner Kashmir Tahir Aijaz. During the drive, the joint team destroyed large swathes of poppy-cultivated fiels in Aung, Matipora Nanil areas of Anantnag; Narbug, Shairabad, Nowdal, Aligund areas in Awantipora Pulwama and villages of Halqa Tullinowpora in Tehsil Qaimoh of Kulgam.
Meanwhile the authorities have sought assistance from general public in the drive to curb the overall drug-related activities. (GNS)
