Srinagar, Feb 23 (GNS): Authorities on Wednesday said that electricity will soon be restored in all district headquarters except Kulgam.

“Hectic efforts by field staff have finally paid in the form of restoration of all 69 number feeders. This is really commendable considering the extent of damages that sudden heavy snowfall had caused. Local issues are also being addressed,” Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) said in a tweet late on Wednesday evening.

However, the authorities said that power supply to southern district Kulgam shall remain effected for next few days as two transmission towers have collapsed due to snowfall, officials said.

“Two towers of 132 KV Mirbazar Kulgam transmission line feeding Grid station got collapsed due to heavy snowfall. Power supply to entire Kulgam district shall remain effected for few days”, reads a tweet by Executive Engineer ED Kulgam.

A senior officer of the department told GNS that emergency restoration system has been requisition for and it also takes couple of days.  He said while all other grid station stands restored, electricity poles have collapsed at community transmission level at several places and are being restored. “Where the network is intact, the electricity has been or will be restored soon,” he said. Sources said that electric polls have fallen at a number of places.   People from lal Bazar’s Umar Colony B Lane No 3 Near Masjid Sheikh-ul-Alam said that three electric poles got damaged due to heavy snow and requested authorities to replace them immediately to restore electricity. Similarly, people of Bota Kadal near Old Post Office lane said that a cement pole has collapsed and urged authorities to replace the same on urgent basis and restore electricity.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole said that 20 to 25 percent power lines have been affected due to snowfall. He said the Divisional Administration was working to restore electricity to the affected areas. (GNS)
