No Staff Shortage, Proxy Practice Won’t Be Tolerated: MS

Handwara, Jan 7 (GNS): The patient care at district hospital Handwara has over the time taken a severe hit amid acute shortage of regular paramedical staff at the premier health facility, catering to patients from dozens of areas in frontier Kupwara district.
Instead of employing regular staff, the hospital authorities have roped in medical students from colleges’ to cater the ever increasing flow of patients at the health facility. “Even those already employed seldom turn up to their duties only to worsen the scenario”, said a medical official on condition of anonymity.
“There are some forty paramedical staffers sanctioned for the hospital however maximum of them are giving an open go-bye to their duties leaving the patients suffering”, he said adding in between all this the medical students are taking the patients on a ride as they are yet to understand the nitty gritties of the profession.”
When GNS contacted Medical Superintendent District Hospital Handwara Dr. Nissar Ahmad however contest the shortage of paramedical staff at the hospital. “There is no shortage of (paramedical) staff at the hospital”, the medical officer said adding there however was strict ban on proxy practice and won’t be as such tolerated at any cost.
“Night time inspection will be conducted henceforth to keep a tab on the things”, he added. (GNS)
