COVID-19: 25 More Test Positive, Cases Rises To 726

Srinagar, May 4 (GNS): A 2-year-old boy, a mother-daughter duo and two families, one of them comprising ATM guard and his six kin were among 25 people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus that takes the total tally of the Covid-19 patients to 726 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Professor Farooq Ahmad Jan, medical superintendent of SKIMS Soura said that 20 out of 775 samples, processed at Viral Diagnostic Lab of the hospital, returned positive for the novel coronavirus and include 12 from Baramulla, four from Budgam and two each from Shopian and Bandipora districts.

Similarly, a senior doctor at CD hospital told GNS out of 337 samples processed till 1600 hours at hospital’s Covid-19 laboratory, four tested positive and include 17-year-old girl and her 39-year-old mother from Wandroo Mohalla in Rainawari Srinagar besides 47-year-old man from Reshipora Pulwama and teenager from Surankote Poonch, attendant of a bed-ridden patient admitted to Super Speciality Hospital Shreenbagh here. District Magistrate Poonch Rahul Yadav said that the teenager was residing at Chandigarh and had gone to Srinagar to see his brother.

Sources told Global News Service all those who tested positive in Baramulla district are from two families, one comprising of seven members including 39-year-old ATM guard, his wife, two sons, daughter-in-law and two brothers from Sheerbagh Kanlibagh area while other is from Hardchillo Tanmarg—8-year-old girl, 50-year-old man and his 22-year-old son besides two males, one of them aged 32 and other 40 respectively.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo told GNS that the ATM at Gulnarpark and his entire family was already under quarantine while contact tracing has been started.     

 Regards four persons who tested positive in Budgam, sources told global news service that they include 24-year-old man from Haproo Nagam while three others—boy (11), 24-year-old youth and 35-year-old man are from Charari Sherief, all contacts of previous patients.  

Shopian district’s positive cases include 23-year-old and 21-year-old youth from Heerpora, one of the most affected areas in the southern Kashmir district.

The Bandipora district reported two cases—one of them a 2-year-old boy and other a 32-year-old man from Naid Khai, both contacts of previous COVID-19 patients. The Jammu district also reported a fresh case from Satwari area, they said.

With these cases, Bandipora has 130 positive cases followed by Srinagar and Anantnag have 109 cases each, Baramulla 103 , Shopian 83, Kupwara 66, Budgam 30, Ganderbal 14 (no active case), 11 Kulgam and Pulwama 9.

Similarly, Jammu has 27 positive cases and all but one of them have recovered followed by Udhampur 20, Samba 7, Rajouri 4 while Kathua, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Reasi districts have one case each and except for Kishtwar all of them are ‘active positive’ 

Moreover, 16 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals and include six from Bandipora and five each from Srinagar and Baramulla.

Meanwhile, according to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 726 positive cases, 415 are active positive, 3030 have recovered and eight have died.

Till date 77656 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which includes 11850 persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 182 in Hospital Quarantine, 415 in hospital isolation and 7232 under home surveillance. Besides, 57969 persons have completed their surveillance period. (GNS)
