Violence in any of its manifestations unacceptable: Farooq
Srinagar, Feb 11(GNS): A special police officer was killed while three policemen along with a paramilitary trooper were injured in a grenade blast in Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Friday.
A police spokesperson said that that at about 1700 hours, militants hurled a grenade on a joint party of Police and BSF near Nishat park in Bandipora, resulting in killing of one police personnel and injuries to other uniformed men.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that (militants) hurled a grenade upon the Naka party near Nishat Park in Bandipora in which five Police and BSF personnel received splinter injuries and were evacuated to hospital.” However, he said, one among the injured police personnel Zubair Ahmad succumbed to his injuries. “The condition of other injured personnel is stable,” the spokesperson told GNS.
Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law, he said. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the cases.” He said area has been cordoned and searches are going on.
Meanwhile, National Conference President and Member of Parliament from srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah condemned the grenade attack.
“Violence in any of its manifestations is always unacceptable and will yield nothing except further death and destruction. The vicious cycle of death has caused much loss to human lives in J&K while devastating the socio-economic conditions of the people during the last over three decades. My heartfelt sympathies are with the kin of the slain cop. I pray for the fast recovery of all injured,” Farooq said.
Condemning the attack, Omar said, “I unequivocally condemn the cowardly act of violence. I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the slain cop. I also pray for the speedy recovery of all those who have sustained injuries,” he said. (GNS)
