Srinagar, Dec 01 (GNS): A bear sighting inside the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) premises on Monday evening, triggered concern among students and staff, prompting the administration to activate immediate safety measures.
Officials told GNS that CCTV footage captured the animal moving within the campus. Following the alert, the Wildlife Department was informed and a response team was dispatched to the institute.
The SKIMS administration, officials said, carried out on-site assessments in the hostel zone and directed security personnel to intensify surveillance, especially around residential and less-frequented areas of the campus. “Additional patrolling has been ordered as a precautionary measure.”
“Wildlife department authorities have placed a bear trap near the hostel section in an effort to safely capture and relocate the animal,” they said, adding, “the team is continuing to monitor the surroundings for further movement.”
The administration has in the meantime, urged students, staff and attendants to remain vigilant, avoid isolated stretches after dark, and immediately report any unusual activity to security.
Officials further said the situation is under close watch and that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of those on campus. (GNS)
