Srinagar, June 5 (GNS): Air pollution is linked to many heart diseases and it can have adverse effects on people’s health, a doctor said on Saturday.
“There is a direct link between air pollution and heart diseases. American Heart Association in its statement in 2004 has said that the rise in air pollution can cause deaths. In 2010, they said that 20 percent of deaths in the world are due to air pollution,” said Dr. Irfan Ahmad Bhat, consultant cardiologist in Super Specialty hospital here said.
In last 15 years, he said, Kashmir has witnessed a rise in air pollution.
“Patients who already have heart ailments, air pollutants can worsen their health,” he said. “People who are exposed to air pollution for a long time period can experience a number of heart ailments.”
He urged the people of Kashmir to keep their environment clean and raise their voice against the air pollution.(GNS)
