Srinagar, Sep 08 (GNS): In a first of its type imitative, non-governmental organisation ‘We The Helping Hands’ Sunday launched an alms-house (Langar Khana) in central-Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
To be run under the slogan, ‘Aao Khao Aur Dua Dou’, the alms-house, as per the NGO management, is preferably dedicated to providing free meals to the attendants of patients receiving treatment at SKIMS Soura.
“The Langar Khana will offer lunch from 1 PM to 3 PM and dinner from 7 PM to 9 PM, with an aim to assist those facing financial difficulties while supporting their loved ones in the hospital,” said a management member.
“Many attendants struggle to afford basic meals, and this new service seeks to address that need.”
“Additionally, the foundation will provide blankets for patients and their families, with the understanding that they will be returned once treatment is completed,” the member said.
Notably, the inauguration ceremony was attended as Chief Guest by sitting Member Parliament from Srinagar seat, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi. The event was also attended by many other distinguished socio-religious personalities.
Mehdi, emphasizing the significance of the initiative, as per GNS, stated that, “This Langar Khana is a testament to the spirit of compassion and community support. It’s heartening to see such initiatives that provide relief to those in need, demonstrating the true essence of our shared humanity.”
Umar Wani, the founder of ‘We The Helping Hands Foundation’, shared his vision for the project, saying, “Our goal is to ease the hardship faced by hospital attendants. By providing free meals and blankets.”
“We hope to offer a small but significant relief to those who are already going through a tough time. We believe that by coming together, we can make a real difference in their lives”, said Wani. (GNS)
