Jal Shakti deptt alleged of changing DPR to ‘benefit other villages’

Zaffer Iqbal

Uri, Feb 6:(GNS) The households of around 300 village Thajal in Uri area near Line of Control (LoC) of Hajipeer sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is without drinking water supply for the last two weeks.

According to locals, the village has no water supply for the last fifteen days alleging that the employees of the Jal Shakti department were not fixing the problem despite giving them a number of reminders.

Bashir Ahmad, Panch of ward No 3 told GNS that their water supply scheme from Charunda Nallah to Thajal has been lying defunct for a decade but it is yet to be repaired.

“We are without drinking water supply for the last two weeks and are forced to drink polluted water from a local nallah,” he said.

Another local Kursheed Ahmad said that the government has recently sanctioned a water supply scheme for the village and it is in the name of Chrunda_Thajal. “But the concerned department is trying to change the DPR (Detailed Project Report) of this scheme and include some other villages in this scheme too which is not meant for them,” he said.

Assistant Executive Engineer Jal Shakti department Uri, Nasir Ahmad Wani told GNS that reports of changing the DPR is completely baseless. “There are two schemes for this area among them the work is in progress for one which is taken from Tilawari nallah and another scheme is also approved under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) which is named Chrunda_-Thajal scheme,” he said.

He said under the Tilawari water supply scheme several houses of Tilawari, Thajal and Pawdan will be covered and remaining households will be covered in other water supply schemes which is under process.

“I will check on the complaints of scarcity of drinking supply in Thajal village,” he said.( GNS)
