Bandipora, Jan 4 (GNS): Residents of Chak-i-Ganastan Sumbal in north-Kashmir’s Bandipora district are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) over frequent power cuts in the area.
A local delegation told GNS that the department concerned is not adhering to any proper schedule, which in turn is causing lot of hardships to the local populace.
Parvaiz Ahmad Malla, part of the delegation, said that the students are badly affected due to continuous power cuts. “It is quite difficult for the student community to study and prepare for exams in absence of electricity”, Malla said.
“The erratic electricity schedule has thrown the water supply facilities out of gear, forcing the local women folk to fetch water from far-off places amid this chilly weather”, he added.
Another local resident, Ali Mohammed, part of the delegation said that “Besides students and women folk the patients are suffering alike as various patients on Oxygen support system are unable to get the required supply causing worries to their respective families” adding “Even some children who have to be provided with Nebulization are facing difficulties to manage the things sans this basic facility.”
Meanwhile, when contacted PDD Executive Engineer Sub-division Sumbal Ghulam Qadir put the entire blame on the consumers only.
“Consumers are misusing electricity which is causing problems,” the official said adding that “They (consumers) need to cooperate with the department to ensure judicious use of electricity”. (GNS)
