Srinagar, Dec 15: The Agriculture Department has started work on the processing of export of red rice from the border area Tangdhar that could be placed to the market in the standard of 1kg, 2 kg and 5 kg very soon, the DDC Kupwara Anshul Garg was informed on Tuesday during a District Level Export Promotion Committee (DLEPC) meeting held to identify the products that can be exported from the district.
According to GNS, the meeting held threadbare discussion on the agenda points and the committee decided to promote red rice and walnut as export products from Kupwara at the first instance and in future marble and other products of the district.
The DDC directed all stakeholders to redouble their efforts in identifying the areas and products for proper development so that more products could be exported and the district becomes an export hub. He also stressed the need for holding mass awareness regarding the programme and directed the concerned to provide necessary technical knowhow and support to the entrepreneurs of the district.
Among others, Joint Director, Planning, General Manager DIC, CAO, CHO, DIO, representatives of Handloom and Handicrafts, Industrial Promotion Officer were present in the meeting. (GNS)
