Uri (Baramulla), Dec 9 (GNS): Locals in Paranpeelan constituency in Uri have claimed to have caught a Congress party activist ‘red-handed while distributing money’ among the voters hours before start of polling scheduled on Thursday.

The alleged activist Tariq Tanga who happens to be the son-in-law of senior Congress leader Taj Mohu-ud-din, as per reports was caught in action by locals while distributing money on Wednesday evening.

The alleged activist was subsequently handed over to police whereupon, as per reports, he was lodged in police post Kamalkote even his vehicle also seized.

However when contacted SDPO Uri outrightly played down the public claims maintaining that “Nothing was found from the possession of the activist when he is believed to have been ‘caught’ by the people.”

Meanwhile a district administration official relying on the comments of police official said that “Police has said that no such thing was recovered from the alleged person’s possession”, adding that “However directions have been passed on to SDM Uri to initiate an enquiry into the incident.”

In the meantime JKPC Chairperson Sajad Gani (@sajadlone) while taking to micro-blogging site Twitter has wrote that “Attempts to hush up a case involving distribution of money in parenpeela URI DDC constituency. The constituency goes to polls tomorrow. The LG has a moral duty to ascertain who all r behind attempts to hush up the case (sic.).”

Meanwhile there is a palpable anger among the locals, who have been demanding strict action against the activist ‘for resorting to such a tactic to lure the voters.’ (GNS)
