Srinagar, June 18 (GNS): Police on Thursday said that two encounters, one in Awantipora and other in Shopian are still underway and so far two militants have been killed.
In a statement issued here, Police said that on specific inputs regarding presence of militants, two joint cordon and search operations were launched by Police and security forces in Awantipora and Shopian.
Police along with 50RR and 140Bn CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation in Meej Pampore area. While as another joint CASO was carried out in Bandhpawa Munand by Shopian Police, 44RR and 178Bn CRPF.
During the search operations in the areas, the hiding militants fired on the joint search parties. The fire was retaliated leading to encounters at both places.
In the ensuing encounters, so far one militant each has been killed and their bodies were retrieved.
‘Both the encounters are still continuing and further details shall follow once the encounters are concluded,” the spokesman said, adding, “People are requested to be away from the encounter sites till the encounters are over and the areas are sanitised and cleared from explosive materials, if any.”(GNS)
