Poonch, Jun 12: (GNS) Administration in frontier Poonch district on Friday facilitated movement of the stranded migrant labourers out of the district amid the prevailing Lockdown.
An official privy to the development told GNS that seven buses were arranged for the labourers left stranded in the district after clampdown of the Lockdown on March 23.
“Around 105 stranded migrant workers hailing from Bihar state were evacuated by the administration”, the official said adding “they (workers) have left for Katra where from they will be accordingly ferried to their homes.”
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mendhar, Dr. Sahil Jandhyal while talking to GNS said that around 105 labourers were ferried to Katra after conduction of all medical formalities with regard to ongoing COVID19 pandemic.
“The labourers were allowed to move beyond only after testing negative for the Infection (COVID19) and other necessary protocols”, Jandhyal said adding “All the travelling expenses were taken care of by the Government.”
On the occasion alongside a host of district administration officials and employees, Tehsildar Dr. Vikram Kumar Sharma and naib-Tehsildar Ashfaq Ahamd Fani were also present to wave off the labourers.
Meanwhile, workers on the eve extended their gratitude towards the district for their “noble endeavour” amid the prevailing circumstances. (GNS)
