Jahangir Lolabi

Kupwara, Jul 24 (GNS): Three years after its construction, the water reservoir in Rangwar locality in Lalpora Lolab has failed to supply drinking water to the households even as, according to locals, lacs of rupees were spent on the project to cater the long-pending demand of the residents.

A delegation from Lalpora Panchayat-B led by Sarpanch and local residents here said that despite the reservoir water tank established by the PHE department, the area is being supplied water through a water-tanker (vehicle) which arrives once or twice a week.

“A water reservoir outsourced by two rivulets, flowing in the area, was constructed at a cost of some twelve lac rupees three years before” they said adding “However we are still being deprived of the supply for the reasons best known to them (PHE department) only.”

“Despite the water source available even easily accessible, with the reservoir tank already established in the area, we fail to understand as why are we being still deprived of water supply”, they said.

“Instead of doing the needful adjustment, they (PHE department) is making supply through a mobile tanker, which ultimately is putting extra burden on the government exchequer”, they lamented.

When contacted Bhir Singh, Executive Engineer Kupwara told GNS that reports have been separately sought from concerned AEE and JE over the complaints made by the locals. “Once I get the response from them, all necessary action will follow in this regard on a priority basis.”

Meanwhile, AEE Abdul Majeed said that matter will be looked into and assured that required measures will be taken to facilitate the area without much delay.

“Due to prevailing circumstances we somehow could not make it possible as of now”, the official said adding “Work to connect the area with the water-tank will be expedited in upcoming days.”

The delegation has meanwhile urged Honorable Lieutenant Governor and Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to look into the matter and to launch an enquiry to see as to why the project has failed to serve the purpose, years after its establishment even as a huge sum spent on its construction. (GNS)
