25 More Test Positive, Covid-19 Tally Rises To 861

Srinagar, May 10 (GNS): An employee of Government Medical College Srinagar and one more staff nurse at Super specialty hospital (SSH) Shreenbagh were among twenty five people who tested positive for novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking the overall tally of the Covid-19 patients in J&K to 861.

Fourteen of the cases were confirmed at Dr. Lal Path Labs and it was for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic that samples were tested at the private lab, sources said. They pertained to those arrived from outside J&K and were all under quarantine, they said.  

Among the fresh cases, Kulgam district reported 10 followed by Srinagar 5, Shopian 3, Baramulla and Kupwara two each while Jammu, Kathua and Anantnag had one case each.

Nodal Officer Dr. Salim told GNS that 367 samples were tested at Microbiology Lab of CD Hospital Srinagar and eight out of them returned positive for the pathogen.

Among them, sources said that five are from Srinagar and include three contacts of a COVID positive doctor (35-year-old casualty officer at SSH), one traveler of Nehru Park and an employee of GMC Srinagar. The other cases include two from Shopian, contacts of previous patients admitted in JLNM Hospital Srinagar while another is staff nurse from SSH here, a resident of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Dr Saleem said traveler of Nehru Park had traveled from Jammu by road and was intercepted by Police following which he was sampled at TRC and taken into Quarantine at Nehru Park. He is basically a resident Hidi Kupwara, he added.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura Professor Farooq Jan told GNS that three out of 685 samples tested at the hospital’s virology lab came out to be positive. They include 45-year-old man from Shopian, 50-year-old from Kanlibagh Baramulla and a 20-year-old youth from Gonipora Handwara in northern Kupwara district.   

Out of 861 cases, 469 are active positive, 383 have recovered and nine have died, officials said.

With these cases, Bandipora has 134 positive cases (57 active) followed by Srinagar with 136 cases (58 active), Anantnag 123 (119 active), Baramulla 108 (60 active), Shopian 103 (52 active), Kupwara 73 (31 active), Budgam 46 (33 active), 31 Kulgam (26 active), Ganderbal 23 (9 active )  and Pulwama 12 (9 active)

Similarly, Jammu has 32 positive cases and all but 6 of them have recovered followed by Udhampur 22 (2 Active), Samba 7 (3 active), Rajouri 4 (zero active), Kathua 3 (2 active) while Kishtwar (zero active), Ramban and Reasi districts have one case each.  

Also two COVID-19 patients, admitted in Trauma Hospital Bijbehara Anantnag, were discharged after their two repeat samples were tested negative.

Patients were discharged by CMO Anantnag in presence of Dy. CMO Anantnag and Medical Superintendent SDH Bijbehara (I/c Trauma Hospital Bijbehara), the sources added.  

Government said that till date 93344 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 21760 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 177 in Hospital Quarantine, 469 in hospital isolation and 9615 under home surveillance. Besides, 61314 persons have completed their surveillance period. (GNS)
