Police launch district-wide raids to dismantle terror support networks

Srinagar, July 22 (GNS): In the aftermath of the today’s terrorist attack in Anantnag, security forces have launched an extensive crackdown across the Kashmir Valley, with over 2500 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) detained for questioning and verification.

The coordinated district-wide operations were carried out in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Ganderbal and other districts on the basis of credible intelligence inputs. The objective is to identify and neutralize networks providing logistical, financial, communication, transportation, shelter and other forms of support to terrorist organizations.

Officials said simultaneous raids were conducted at multiple locations to gather evidence and prevent attempts by terrorist elements and their facilitators to carry out unlawful activities.

In Srinagar, nearly 700 suspected OGWs were detained, while Ganderbal Police detained more than 100. Similar large-scale operations were undertaken in Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam and Shopian districts, contributing to the overall figure of over 2500 detentions across the Valley.

The detained individuals are being questioned in accordance with law to ascertain their role, if any, in activities prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory.

Police said the ongoing exercise also serves as a preventive measure to maintain public order, enhance security, and deter anti-national elements from exploiting the prevailing situation.

“Such intelligence-led operations will continue in close coordination with other security and intelligence agencies to eliminate the terror-supporting ecosystem and ensure the safety and security of citizens,” a senior police official said.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to uphold the rule of law and maintain peace and communal harmony across the Valley. (GNS)
