Srinagar, March 11 (GNS): Police on Monday claimed to have busted a module of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen alleged involved in the killing of a Sarpanch last week in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
Three militant associates were arrested for being “actively involved in the killing of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir at Audoora”.
On March 11, militants barged into the residential premises of Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir at Adoora Kulgam and killed him after he was indiscriminately fired upon, police said. “In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was got conducted through a special investigation team,” police said in a statement to GNS.
“During the course of investigation, it was learnt that an active (militants) of HM namely Farooq Nali alias Umer had received directions from (militant) handlers based in Pakistan to target the PRI members of Kulgam,” police said, adding, “On their directions, he identified the target and gave direction accordingly to active HM (militant) namely Mushtaq Itoo alias Faizan and Zubair Sofi alias Farhan to execute the (militant) act with the support of their associates namely Danish Ahmad Dar of Mohanpora Kulgam, Faisal Hameed Wagay resident of Adoora Kulgam and Nisar Rashid Bhat of Tengpora Shopian.” The directions included to conduct reccee of the Sarpanch’s presence, arrange transport and provide logistics to execute the militant act, the police said.
“After strenuous efforts, Kulgam police arrested the three (militant) associates.”
Police said, vehicles used in the commission of killing was also seized besides “arms and ammunition including 02 Pistols, 03 Pistol Magazines, 11 Pistol rounds, 2 grenades, 01 AK Magazine, and 15 AK47 rounds and other incriminating materials.”
“The investigation of the case is going on and based on the investigation more arrests and recoveries are also expected,” the police said, adding, “Efforts are on to neutralise the involved (militants).” (GNS)
