DC, SSP visit NH-44

Ramban, Fev 28 (GNS): Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohita Sharma today visited Nashri and other locations on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (Nh-44) to ensure distribution of food packets amongst stranded passengers who have been stuck due to blockade of road near Samroli.

Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal, Dy. SP, Pardeep Singh, Tehsildar, Rafiq Ahmed and several other officers were present on the occasion.

The DC informed that Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic last night due to landslide at Toldi Nallah in Udhampur. Nearly 400 hundred vehicles were stuck on NH-44 in district Ramban. He said that food packets are being distributed to the stranded passengers and drivers.

The SSP urged the passengers to contact the Traffic Police and Police Control Rooms before embarking on their journey on Jammu –Srinagar National Highway especially during inclement weather conditions besides following traffic advisories issued by the Traffic Police Department.

Later, the DC and SSP also inspected the progress of ongoing construction works on Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) Yatri Niwas at Chanderkote.   The DC asked the CPWD to fast-track ongoing furnishing works by continuing the work round the clock to complete the project within the stipulated timeline.

He also passed directions to all stakeholder departments to ensure that all connected utilities like power and water supply are in place to facilitate the yatries during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2022.

The DC was informed by the site engineers that construction work on Yatri Niwas is nearing completion.(GNS)
